The Background, Health & Nutrition Intervention

GDI–Uganda acknowledges human health as a primary gate to human survival and existence and plays an absolute contribution to prevention and treatment of diseases in the community especially among children and women who are the most vulnerable a group of people and consequently the economic well-being of the Society. Secondly, all our interventions are aimed at improving nutrition service delivery to young adolescents, pregnant and lactating mothers, infants and children below 5years and household units.

GDI-Uganda Health and Nutrition Approaches

This is achieved through,
Strengthening Health Systems, authorities, and stakeholders to respond to community health and nutrition need. This involves empowering health workers and Community Health Volunteers to manage and report Health and nutrition issues and promote appropriate health and nutrition practices.

supporting integration of health and nutrition services at all levels of development programming in service delivery, ensuring constant supply equipment, therapeutic feeds and Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials at health centers to guarantee optimum management of health and nutrition cases, supporting improvement of nutrition health infrastructure and finally Supporting Central and local government to plan.

Develop and manage nutrition interventions, formulate and enact guidelines and policies on Nutrition. Supporting Health and Nutrition Research or surveys to ensure an evidence base, accurate, timely, inclusive and sustainable approach to health and nutrition development work in the community

Furthermore, we support agricultural development work for improved food production and productivity. This approach allows for improved availability of food for consumption and increases the dietary diversity in the community and consequently improved dietary nutrient intake and diversity. Another key strategy is entrepreneurial development and supporting access to finances for investments among households. This approach leads to proliferation of diverse livelihood and economic empowerment activities to strengthen the health and nutrition -purchase path way in communities.

We support work which ensures preventions and treatment of HIV/AIDS, Infectious Diseases, Malaria, and other diseases. We support access to safe drinking water and good environment sanitation. This allows for improved access to and utilization of clean and safe drinking water for reduced disease outbreak. Finally we do nutrition advocacy work to improve awareness, response, deliberate planning, and management on nutrition issues.
